I have made many decisions in my life but the one that sticks out the most to me is the decision not to play high school football all four years. Instead, I chose to play only two years, my sophomore and senior year. I had a bad sophomore year, with a lot of injures and limited amount of playing time, that got me to the decision of not returning for my junior year. I enjoyed the time off that I had, but when it came to football season it was like there was something missing. I said to myself that I was going to return for my senior year. The decision to play football for only two years hurt me with experience, scouts, and having fun.
Choosing to play football for two years instead of four hurts me with the experience desperately needed to play the game. I really enjoy playing football, but I didn't know that much about it. For example, play calling, who to block, and how to avoid blockers. I played defense and my purpose on the field was to never take myself out of the play, but to position myself to make the tackle. I had a very hard time
seeing the play develop before it got started. That is a football player's instinct, and because of me not playing the four years, I was without it.
The decision that I made not to play football those other two years really puts a burden on me. I will never know what might have happened if I had chose to play all four years. I am not a quitter, nor do I like to think of it as a solution to a problem. Yet I still did. Life is fulfilled by many trials and tribulations that we may face everyday. The real trial is the decisions that we make in life to face those tribulations.
I lost my chance that I might have had with the scouts because I lack the experience that showed on the field. I felt in my heart like I was the best player on the field because I gave it my all no matter what the situation was. I know I could have been a better athlete on the field and towards the end of the season I probably was.
