The topic I am discussing is whether or not the age for obtaining a provisional driving license should be lowered to 16. Another is if the age to get your learner's license stayed the same it would give them less time to practice. The third point is that they would have an immature attitude towards driving and be more easily influenced. The fourth point is that if they are still at school they will not be earning enough money to properly maintain a vehicle.

Another one of the reasons I don't think the age should be lowered for obtaining a provisional drivers license should be lowered to 16 is it would give the drivers less time to practice. If you were able to get your provisional driver's license at 16 and they kept the age for getting your learners license the same, which is 15 and 9 months, that would only give you 3 months to practice. At the moment here in Canberra we have over a year to practice in all conditions, and still the people at most risk are 17-25 year olds. When they get their license at 16 they might be a good driver but they have had no time to learn about what to do if someone walks of a footpath, or if the car ahead suddenly slams on the brakes. It takes time and a lot of practice to learn these skills and 3 months is not enough time and without time they cannot practice.
