The Russian Revolution altered the lives of the Russians by overpowering the Tsar, because of the hardships they experienced under his rule. They believed that with this they could have more freedom of speech in which they could have a say on how their nation would be governed and also a fairer share in the wealth of their sovereign state. The revolution in Russia was then led by Lenin who had modified their lives. This included women being given the same rights as men, because women under the Tsar's rule, were considered second class citizens. Most of Lenin's promises did not occur which then resulted in another civil war. Cities were in chaos, children who were orphans created gangs that roamed the streets, burglary and robbery was prevalent in which stolen goods were found in the thieves' market. The Russian people suffer all these things, not to mention the hunger and starvation because of lack of supplies. War Communism predominated, giving great suffering to the people of Russia. Agriculture collapsed, and requisitioning of grain led to low grain harvest. Because of these, peasants saw little point in growing food. To add to this trouble, in 1921 drought occurred which resulted in even less grain grown, thereby, leading to terrible famine killing at least five million people.

Lenin under the Russian revolution, introduced a lot of reforms. However, the underlying result of these was that he did not seem to be keeping to his promise of letting the Russian people be free from the oppression they have known and experienced under the Tsar's rule. He instead closed down the Constituent Assembly by imposing Communist rule. Lenin also decided to ban all newspapers that didn't support the Communist government, and he dictated on what should be printed in the papers.
