A detailed Summary of History Coursework: What were the origins of the Cultural Re

For my history coursework I have chosen the topic of the Cultural Revolution and Mao's China. The question will be broken into two parts, one which is based on the origins of the Cultural Revolution and what happened in it. The other part will be based on how it effected China after it had occurred. This investigation will include extensive research into why the Cutural Revolution was launched and a brief note on major events which occurr during it. And the consequences of the Cultural Revolution and its effects on China's society, economy, politics and other important aspects. I will first explain the origins which will be followed by finding the effects in general, relate them to the various aspects which I stated and explain how they can effect the society, government, economy or other aspects. After I have found a sufficient amount of effects and explained them, I will sum up all of them and reach a conclusion as to what extent did the Cultural Revolution effect China. All of this will be read from secondary sources.

To start off I think it would be wise to start my coursework off by explaining briefly why Mao had decided to launch the Cultural revolution and what happened in it. The sources which I have chosen are text book

In 1967 the actions of the Cultural Revolution had settled down and politics had started to go ballistic. Mao was now considered a God like figure in China, under Mao there were three distinctively different groups which were: the extreme radical Cultural Revolution group under Jiang Qing Mao's wife. The radical military under Lin Biao, a high ranking general who was destined to be Mao's successor. And the moderates which was lead by Zhou Enlai and Deng Xiaoping. There was a large blend with the military and the politics, however Mao did not want China to fall into a millitary dictatorship and in 1969 the millitary was told to focus on its own training which was to relieve it from the politcal role. Lin Biao was mysteriously killed in a plane crash after Mao had heard about the plot Lin was making against him, which left the seat for Mao's successor vacant. Zhou Enlai had died in January 1976 which left Deng Xiaoping on his own and Mao did not want Deng to take the role of the leader of the country due to his history as a capitalist. Hua Guofeng was appointed the new successor of Mao who was a first secretary of the Hunan party, Mao chose Hua over Deng because he considered Hua a man who would be elgable to consolidate the Cultural Revolution. When Mao died in Spetember 9 1976 the power struggle continued between Deng Xiaoping who had returned, Hua Guofeng and the Gang of Four. The Gang of Four was placed on trial and eventually imprisoned for enjoying luxuries, Hua Guofeng was considered a man who hardly knew what he was doing, which left Deng who changed China in the future. By the end around 400,000 people were killed. Many thousands were beaten up, humiliated, tortured and imprisoned. The revolution had brain washed the entire enducation system, the standard curriculum had been a
