Saul and David are two men that possessed an unbelievable amount of power. The thing that distinguishes one from the other is the method each chose to utilize his power. Saul chose the path of trying to immortalize his own self. The monument erected on his behalf is a testament to the popularity he amassed during his reign. Unfortunately, in God's view, Saul's lack of piety caused him to lose the Lord's favor. Fortunately, for David, he never lost track of what was most important to himself. David's love of God knew absolutely no barriers. Although he was not as popular with his countrymen as Saul, David cannot be considered a failure as king. Along with putting a tremendous amount of thought into all his decisions, David's strong faith is to be admired. Although his devotion to a higher being seemed absurd in certain circumstances, one cannot deny David's will and determination for something he loved.
