God

Since the beginning of human interaction there has always been the idea of a higher being. These ideas evolved into organized religions, which play a big role in our lives. Those who believe in the existence of a god or gods are theist, and those who do not are atheists. Both of these are reasonable ways of thinking, and one is not better than the other. It is a personal preference. Theists claim that they discover meaning for their lives through their relation with god. They find relief and peace by seeing god as someone personal and real in their lives. Atheist's view of life requires greater strength and commitment than the theist's view of life. By denying the existence of god, atheists have taken on more responsibilities in life, not less.

Atheism is different from most other religions of the world. Obviously you say the religions of the world believe in a supreme being whereas atheism does not believe in a god. No it is different in a much more fundamental sense. Atheism is not about a moral code; it is about acknowledging a basic fact of life, that there is no god. It has nothing to say about what is moral and what is not. They believe that they are responsible for their choices and their lives. The motivation is dif

God is a delicate issue because some people need religion but others do not. The realist must ask: Did an omnipotent God create man or did insecure, frightened people create Gods? How you answer that question will influence your behavior somewhat, particularly in terms of church attendance, reliance on prayer, contributions to church activities and buildings, and perhaps other ways. But your basic value system may not change at all: People are just as honest, caring, gentle, good, etc. when they no longer believe in God as when they did. Religion is not the only basis for being considerate of others, being faithful, unprejudiced, and living in harmony. These values are simply reasonable and beneficial. With or without a religion, we all have the same four needs to meet and most of the same moral choices to make. We can find meaning for our lives without religion. We won't all arrive at the same meaning, but we can, with effort, all be good and do good in our own way.

I believe theist's need some form of a parental figure. The need to feel controlled, or rather have a dominant figure in their lives. When we grow up, there is a need for structure, which is usually provided by the parents, and in most cases, it is the father who enforces things, while the mother is more nurturing. When we are grown, we lack that in our lives for the most part. Perhaps god is that nurturing and guiding power that people lack otherwise. It's something that they can look up to once they have lost the idea that their parents are the strongest, truest and most perfect people in the world. God is omniscient, according to many that believe in a god. That is something that the human spirit admires.

Regardless whether there is a god or not, people have a burning desire to search for one. Why is that? Maybe god has instilled something in us or pushes us towards him every once in a while. But, on a more practical stand, people need to have security in the unknown. They need somewhere to run to with their fears, ignorance, and their problems. Nonexistence outside the real
