The 1950's brought television into the home. The 1990's have brought the computer into the home. Compare and contrast the domestic impact of these two "revolutions" in technology. To what extent are they similar? Are there crucial differences?

There are negative and positive issues that come along with technologies such as televisions and computers. They are both filled with tremendous potential and everybody should exploit that potential to gain valuable knowledge. The television and computer can be used for pleasure or relaxation and to get information to a wide range of people, but they are quite different types of learning tools.

Discussing some similarities, has know lead me to a crucial difference that must be mentioned. These two technologies are quite different types of learning tools. The television is believed to develop a child's imagination or help them understand the rights and wrongs of the world with educational shows. A good example would be the Sesame Street show. That show is one of the few shows that help children learn the alphabet and numerals in a fun way, but also helps develop their communication skills. On the other hand, a computer is a much more an interactive and hands on type of learning. I really can't imagine not having a computer because I use it for sending mail, typing reports and gaining information for research purposes.
