Gilgamesh
A detailed Summary of Gilgamesh
In reading Gilgamesh translation by David ferry, I found three episodes that I think are particularly significant: no one is allowed eternal life, do not take people for granted and treat woman with respect.
First of all, the one thing that could not complete Gilgamesh life was death. It shows me that even in the old days that no one had eternal life. I learned growing that no one lives forever so we have to live our life to the fullest. As the story demonstrate how Gilgamesh would give everything to have eternal life. However, us human we have no control over destiny so the only thing we can do is wait for our time of death. It happens that whenever we have someone close to us die like Enkidu did in the story it makes us feel closer to death. We read the story of Gilgamesh journey to find the answer for death but the tavern lady Siduri said to him "Who is the mortal who can live forever? The life of man is short. Only the gods can live forever" (X, p. 57

Second, in life we have the tendency to take the people so dear to us for granted. I think that was the situation that Gilgamesh found himself in when Enkidu died. He wishes he had show Enkidu how much he cared for him. It is the same way in our on life that we wish we told our dear one how much we care for them so that when something happen to that one we would not regret it. We read in the story how close of a companion Enkidu and Gilgamesh were but they never showed they love for one another. It is the main reason why Gilgamesh did not want to live life anymore "why am I left to live while my brother dies? Why should he die and I be spared to life?" we can attest to that in our life when a close family member or friend are dying sometime we see no reason for us to life while they lay dead. The death of Enkidu hurt Gilgamesh so much that he spent many days weeping for him and he build him a monument.
Last of all, the reading did not portrait woman in a good ligh
