Equal Funding
Today, universities throughout the country have to face the problem of equality in athletics. Colleges are being forced to re-evaluate the funds that are being distributed to each program. Men and women’s athletic programs are finally being required to be given the same amount of opportunity, meaning money. After all, Title IX, a law passed to which included requirements about equal opportunity in athletics, was passed in 1975 and our country is finally addressing the issues in our universities. It is crucial that the men’s and women’s team of the same sport be given the same amount of money to start the season by the school. It is only fair for the gender’s to have the same opportunity, meaning the same amount of money. That includes the same amount of scholarship money, coaching fund, and equipment funds. Each team deserves the money to spend on uniforms, equipment, in order to ensure a top quality program. I am not arguing that a team shouldn’t be able to fund raise and keep the money that they raise. I am only stating that the university should provide the same sum of money toward each team.
