Equal Funding
Today, universities throughout the country have to face the problem of equality in athletics. Colleges are being forced to re-evaluate the funds that are being distributed to each program. Men and women's athletic programs are finally being required to be given the same amount of opportunity, meaning money. After all, Title IX, a law passed to which included requirements about equal opportunity in athletics, was passed in 1975 and our country is finally addressing the issues in our universities. It is crucial that the men's and women's team of the same sport be given the same amount of money to start the season by the school. It is only fair for the gender's to have the same opportunity, meaning the same amount of money. That includes the same amount of scholarship money, coaching fund, and equipment funds. Each team deserves the money to spend on uniforms, equipment, in order to ensure a top quality program. I am not arguing that a team shouldn't be able to fund raise and keep the money that they raise. I am only stating that the university should provide the same sum of money toward each team. If our country is ever going to close the gender gap, we need to address it in our school system. Men's programs h
This is a major problem that is taking place in universities around America. Equal funding between sports needs to be addressed. If our country is going to close the gender gap, than we need to start with athletics in our universities. I know that if women were given the same opportunity as men, we would start to excel a lot more. We would start to see many more super stars being born and the competition would become even better. All we need is an opportunity. I think that universities need to understand that women deserve every chance to be equal with men. If that means taking money from a men's team to give to a woman's team, than that is what they need to do. No matter the circumstances that surround equal funding in each university, the bottom line is that each team deserves the same amount of funding from the school. There should be no exceptions; our country needs to close the gender gap that exists and this is a big part of it. Universities throughout our country need to take the necessary steps in order to solve this situation. I hope that in the next ten years we will no longer even discuss this. I know that once this is over we will start to see even better female athletes rise and prove themselves. All we need is a little support and a little opportunity. A university needs to take the appropriate steps to ensure equal funding in athletics. If a university has to take money from a football team to give to a women's basketball team, then that move should be made. Although the more popular football team may become upset, it is only right that a women's basketball team be maintained and be given the same opportunity. The university needs to take the appropriate steps to make sure each team remains competitive. It shouldn't matter which sport is more popular; each team deserves to be given equal funding. Each team has the right to exist and in order to prosper at the university level, a te
