Had random people only questioned the teachings of Jesus is a minuet conflict. The real dilemma arises when the ones that are questioning Jesus' teachings are his own disciples. Ones that have been with him and believed in everything related to him from the beginning. As time passed various groups of people came to engage in Jesus' ministry of the words of God. Once the Pharisees noticed the kind of people participating in the crowd they showed strong rebuttal towards the situation by stating, "This fellow...welcomes sinners and eats with them."(Luke 15:2) For the Pharisees, it was absurd how a son of God and of such holy status can be associating with them. In order for the people to understand Jesus, he told them the parable of the prodigal boy. This parable is split into two separate parts. The first part of the parable is focused on the younger, rebellious son, who represents the "sinners" and the tax-collectors. The second part of the parable focuses on the way the older brother reacts with jealousy when he comes home from working on the farm, to find a celebration. This represents the Pharisees reaction of Jesus being with "sinners". In this parable, Jesus shows that even though these people performed sins in the
After committing sin, the prodigal son could not return into a complete state of innocence. God does not use his powers to erase a mistake, when you come to him, but he will still accept you. The son comes to his father in a plea to become one of his servants. On the contrary of the son's past wrongdoings, the boy was still welcomed and reinstated as the father's son, instead of his servant. The welcoming back by the father includes no use of verbal language, but instead the actions of the father ordering his servants to "Quick! Fetch a robe, the best we have, and put it on him..." (Luke 15:22) proved that he has forgiven. This point of the parable reflects on the theme of resurrection used in the Gospels. The son is resurrected from the dead and is now reborn. The resurrection occurs in a spiritual sense where the son begins a new spiritual life and not that of a physical rebirth. The eldest son, who committed no misconduct, was unforgiving to his younger sibling. He felt that the same treatment of someone who has been loyal for their life is not fair. The resentment of the brother exemplifies that God is very much unlike us humans. He does not prevent one from sinning and he is unaffected when we sin. It is God's love for you that is affected by the sin. When God sees that you have changed, he is kinder then a human as he forgives you. Jesus uses both the parable of the lost son and the parable of the farmer sowing the seeds as a way to simplify his actions and those of God, so that the disciples can understand them. The young son was filled with sins that were not only against God, but also his father. His father raised him to watch the boy go off and completely lost his inheritance. After realizing his mistakes, God accepts the reckless son. His sins were forgiven and he was able to begin a new life.
