The Regional Jet

Aviation has a major impact on the world and its people, and it will continue to for many years to come. We have progressed a long way since the Wright Brothers’ first flight; every year the Gov’t implements major changes within the aviation industry. One of the most recent changes was the introduction of the Regional Jet (RJ). After reviewing exactly what a RJ is, it will be very clear that the projected growth of these relatively new aircraft will affect the National Airspace System (NAS) for the years to come. Regional Jets are making a huge impact on air travel today and managing these aircrafts is extremely important to the complex air travel system we have today.

Regional Jets are fairly new to the world of aviation; they were recently introduced in the early 90’s. In 1993 Comair was the first company to present the RJ to the air transportation world, and now there are 200 or more aircraft flown by Comair in operation within the United States. (Trigeiro, 24th Annual) In comparison to turboprop aircraft, a RJ’s characteristics differ greatly.
