Memorable History Moments
What is history? History is defined as "a chronological record of significant events (as affecting a nation or institution) often including an explanation of their causes" (Marriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary). Though history is a record of significant events, no one can really tell exactly how the history of the events has happened. History to some people is a fact, but to some people, it is just an opinion. Therefore, history can be present as a fact or just an opinion. However, the most memorable events in history are seen through the media, which consist of pictures and a person telling the events. People care about what they see more than what they read. The three events in history that I think had mostly affected the American's culture are the Rodney G. King's beating, the O.J. Simpson's trial, and the Bill Clinton's scandal. Starting with Rodney G. King's beating, the event has affected not just the American's culture, but it also affected both the black and the white race. Rodney G. King is an African-American man who resided in Simi Valley, California that was caught speeding which ended up in a hot pursuit at a speed of 110 mph. King finally stopped his car after being chased fo
The event of the Bill Clinton's scandal is probably the most controversial event of the United States politically. Bill Clinton became the president of the United States in 1993. Throughout his eight years of presidency, President Clinton was a great president and was greatly supported by the African-American population. Until his last term of presidency, President Clinton was the second to be impeached by the congress in 1998. President Clinton was impeached due to "a result of issues surrounding personal indiscretions with a young woman White House intern" (Freidel). This event can be said as both media and historical. This event became well know through the media when President Clinton made a confession live on national television stating that he did not have any "sexual relationship" with the White House intern, Monica Lewinsky. However, this event would still be a memorable moment in history even if it had not been shown through the media. This would still be a memorable moment because it is an event that is related to the president of the United States, a man many people look up to. In conclusion, memorable events in history are mostly well remembered by the people through the media. Television gave people more views about the events that included pictures of the events, evidence of the events, and how the events take place. With the three events about Rodney G. King's beating, O.J. Simpson's trial, and Bill Clinton's sca
