Boston Church of Christ or Crossroadism

There is a group growing rapidly across the United States and the world called the Boston Church of Christ or the Crossroads. This cult is a highly aggressive movement that bases its doctrine on the Bible but many say is way off. Looking deeper into this cult we can begin to understand its doctrine and reasons for its movement.

The movement originated in Florida by a man named Chuck Lucas of the Crossroads Church of Christ, a minister at the University of Florida. Rev. Lucas was terminated from his position at the church for "recurring sins in his life" the movement was taken over by Kip McKean a disciple of Lucas trained while a student at Florida University. McKean was intern fired from a campus ministry job in Charleston Ill. He moved his ministry to Lexington, Mass. in 1977. In beginning his ministry he started the Boston Church of Christ where in the first year the membership had recruited 103 people. By the end of the tenth year they had incorporated 1,621 into the following. In 1982 the movement began its pillar churches, key churches placed in strategic cities throughout the world. The program known as "reconstruction" began in 1986, a process by which establi

shed ministers in the Church of Christ were replaced by ministers trained by disciples of the Boston Church of Christ. In 1988 the Crossroads Church disassociated itself with the Boston Church of Christ. The Church now consists of 103 congregations in countries across the world with membership at 50,000.

McKean started the movement to return to the "only true Christian religion" that he is bringing the true message of Christ to people. He felt that, "Ten years ago the northern United States and Europe were considered cold, closed fields to the gospel of Jesus Christ". This radical thought of supreme "Christianity" and a religious fever along with persuasive preaching lead to the movement. The thought of being special and doing God's work appeals to the members who join. The charismatic leader McKean and his elders also have a way of convincing people their way is right. Their belief that their church is the only true church and that all others are "dead" can lead one to believe they are chosen.
