Bradford vs. Smith

Englishman Wm. Bradford and John smith are portrayed as two men whose dreams and goals could only be accomplished on the grounds of America. These two men were two of the earliest settlers in North America and came upon many similar obstacles on their journeys to America. Nevertheless, they were quite different in their tone, purpose, and relationships with God.

Both men, Bradford and Smith, portrayed many similarities in their writings. Each man used a tone in their writings which depicted them as being confident. America was a new land to each of them and they wanted to include as many details as necessary in order to give one the appropriate idea of their findings. Each of them went to America in order to fulfill a certain job or goal. They went there to start over and develop a more prosperous future. In their development of a future, they included


In conclusion, Bradford and Smith had many similarities in which their differences were found. Bradford was a compassionate man who has a very close relationship with God. Smith was seen as an egoist who used great detail and always recognized God for his fortune. Settlers are the ones who brought the culture we study and live by in America today; they also are the ones who started this nation "Our founding fathers...."

When one reads about Bradford, they discover him as a compassionate man who survived his voyage through courage and unbending faith. Bradford wrote with a tone of seriousness, and always depicted himself as being fortunate. He was a puritan from New Salem, who was traveling to America in order to escape religious persecution.
