On April 12, 2002, I went to the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island to see one of my favorite groups the Dave Matthews Band. The band is comprised of Dave Matthews as lead vocalist, and electric/acoustic guitarist. Carter Beauford plays percussion, Steffan Lessard on the bass, Boyd Tinsley on the electric/acoustic violin, and Leroi Moore playing the baritone, alto, and tenor saxophone along with the flute. Also for this performance Butch Taylor was a guest keyboardist. The band opened with one of their older hits called Too Much. Avery common opening song for the band for its upbeat tempo and lyrics, highlighted by Dave?s lyrics being echoed by the electric violin and the baritone saxophone. They followed this song with an unreleased work called Grey Street, another awesome upbeat piece that really got the crowd going. The culmination of this song is when in the final chorus the song builds up by increasing the volume and tempo and to Dave belting out the lyrics with all his might along with Boyd and Leroi playing furious riffs on the violin and saxophone respectively. After having electrifying the crowd with these first two songs, the band next played a more mellow song called If I had it
Their next piece picked up the tempo greatly as it was a crowd pleasing older tune called So Much To Say. It was an upbeat song that featured Leroi on the baritone sax. For the next piece, Dave switched back to the electric guitar for another one of their current hits called The Space Between. It is another sweet piece that features Dave repeating a refrain on the electric of four or five notes accompanied by Boyd on the violin. Bartender and the people he dealt with from drunks to others asking for advice. The band retreats off stage, but in typical fashion returns a few minutes later as the crowd waited patiently waving lighter?s and chanting Dave?s name. They took the stage to deafening applause to which Dave responded "You've been great to us, so we'll be good to you". They than busted out into their most famous song ever called Ants Marching. It?s an upbeat quick tempo piece that featured an incredible violin and sax solo?s by Boyd and Carter. The song is about the repetition and boredom of a couple?s life, yet its optimistic beat and pace along with Dave?s lyrics creates hope for these two people. The crowd and myself included thoroughly enjoyed the show as it lived up to its fifty-five dollar ticket price. The show was the sixth time I?ve seen the band live and I can honestly say it has been more than worth it each time. This band is special because of the uniqueness and incredible talent of each individual and their uncanny ability to work with each other. I can?t wait to see them again this summer, outside at the tweeter center. All, which is off of their new album. The song features Dave on the electric guitar and remains mellow as Dave tells the story of the bad effects to having everything. The song remains chill througho
