Camaro VS. Mustang

The three primary factors in determining the difference in speed of the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro are the engine, the weight, and the body style.

Imagine a 2001 Ford Mustang GT, and a 2001 Chevrolet Camaro Super Sport Lined up side by side at a red light, their engines shaking the ground around them. The light turns green and they both push the gas pedal to the floor and take off burning tires. Who will win the race? Will it be the shorter and lighter Mustang, or the longer and heavier Camaro? The three primary factors in determining the difference in speed of the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro are the engine, the weight, and the body styles.


The body styles of both cars also play a major part in the speed. The Chevrolet Camaro is fifty one-point two inches tall and seventy-four point one inches wide. The Mustang is fifty-three point one inches tall and seventy-three point one inches long. Since the Camaro is not as high as the Mustang then it is more aerodynamic, which creates less wind down force, and lets the Camaro slice through the wind with ease. The Mustang is not quite as wide as the Camaro, which makes up for some of the loss in height. Both cars have the same wheelbase, but the Camaro is ten inches longer than the Mustang. This may make for a smoother ride, but it does not do much for the racing aspect because the extra length causes drag that slows the car down.
