Have you ever been through a war, or experienced anything like it? How did you feel? Where were you? Who were you with? For me, September 11th was the first huge tragedy or war I have ever been through. Being only 15 years old, I have never experienced anything like that before. It has changed my in so many ways. The way I look at America, the way I treat my friends and family, and now I appreciate life so much more than I ever have. The Attack on America impacted my life as an American by changing the way I live my life by realizing bad things can actually happen and how lucky I am to live in America.
It was a Tuesday morning and I was getting ready for school. I had always felt safe and trusted people. I never thought anything bad could happen to the U.S. I was getting ready for school and thought it was going to be another regular day, go to school, sit through my classes, go h
ome and do homework and then go to bed. I never imagined that something so horrible was going to happen to our country.
Witnessing what I would call a war has really opened my eyes to many things I just did not care about before. For example, taking things for granted, like living in America. We are so lucky to be Americans and most of us never think about that. The biggest thing that has changed me is appreciating my family. Now I realize how easily they could be gone in a second. Since September 11th I have tried my best to spend time with them and appreciate them more.
After September 11th I have never felt 100% safe. I am always wondering who I can trust and if what I am doing is safe. Before the attacks, I would not have even thought twice about getting on an airplane, but now, always in the back of my head, is the thought that something might happen.
