Medical marijuana...why not?
There is much controversy surrounding the issue of a medication that has been used around the world as early as 3000 BC. This drug used was that derived from a plant called marijuana ( Cannabis sativa ). It was used in these early times in India, Central Asia, and China for various illnesses. This, of course, was long before the days of science using multiple types of chemicals to form prescription and over the counter drugs we now use in our everyday lives. Yet our government outlaws the use of this natural plant for medication purposes...Why?. The Office of National Drug Control Policy has opposed legalization of medical marijuana because they believe in the possibility that some people would use it as an excuse to sell marijuana for non-medical use. I feel that this is a ridiculous reason and I plan to show you why medical marijuana is not a bad thing and should be legalized. In conclusion, why should such a big deal be made about something so apparently simple that helps people with relief of their chronic diseases? The answer...there shouldn't! This whole situation has been made into such a stupid controversy that can be easily solved through a simple solution. Therefore, I'll ask you to think and answer this question, "medical marijuana...why not?" You may ask, " But what about the side-effects and effects of long-term use?", well my friend, I will tell you. Side effects of marijuana use can include confusion, acute panic attacks and fear. But it also has qualities that result in heightened sensory awareness, and general feelings of pleasure. I believe that people with illnesses eventually resulting in a painful death, would not support the use of this drug if the side effects resulted in a worse experience than the pain felt in their everyday lives. That is why I believe these side effects are not a serious concern. I would also like to bring to your attention the side effects of many other drugs commonly used.
