Gatsby was in love with Daisy. It all started when he was in the army. He met Daisy and

they fell in love. Then Gatsby was sent off on a mission. He returned but was sent to

Oxford on some misunderstanding. Daisy didn't wait for him. She started dating other

men. She wanted a man that could support her. She wanted someone with money, with

love, "She wanted her life shaped now, immediately- of love, of money" (159). Then one

day she met the man of her dreams. Tom Buchanon arrived and he was the man for her.

They were to be married in the fall. Gatsby couldn't do anything to get there. When he

got out of Oxford he spent the last of his military pay and went back to Louisville for his
