Ethical Current Event
As we look back on the last month, we are plagued with one image: the shootings in Washington. How can this happen over and over and the person get away every time unseen in the daylight? Then we realize we live in a sin infested world, and should we really be surprised by this? This paper will explore my ideas, beliefs, and look at what the Bible has to say on this subject. As last week came to a close, another issue plagued the news again, another shooting has occurred. We watched as they closed down the interstates and elaborate freeways of Washington in search of any leads on a white van. I believe this man has nothing to prove other than he can do it. This is clearly a sin and a crime, and this must be stopped. This crime is not a crime against a certain minority or a random religion, but a crime against humanity. CNN quotes, "In the absence of a motive, each can become a focus for conjecture as the public tries to understand the apparently random shootings in the suburbs surrounding the capital." This proposes a very large problem, and that is without a motive, everyone is in danger, and no one is safe. I believe that this is a sin, and with sin comes consequences. Exodus 20:13 says
I believe that God also has His hand on this issue and every issue in life, and that if we confide in him we will be comforted and we will feel his presence. This does not mean that we will not have troubles or pain or suffering in our lives, for God never promises that. He does, however, say that He will be beside us and walking with us through all of our good times and our bad. Society tries to analyze this "ethical problem" through the eyes of the world, and they forget that the only true way to discern the truth is through God's eyes, and through Him. What causes this type of tragedy, and this type of person? I believe it can happen many ways, but I also believe God is the only one who really knows why this person is committing these crimes. CNN says, "Video games, especially those with sniper features, have come under particular scrutiny. Florida lawyer Jack Thompson speculated on NBC's Today show Friday that the shooter might be a gamer. Thompson surmised that an inscription on a Tarot card found near one of the shootings -- "Dear Policeman: I am God" -- might have links to gaming. "You go to video game chat rooms and you have the proclamation 'I am God' all over the place," said Thompson, an advocate of regulations to keep violent video games out of the hands
