The Snowflake Necklace
In Guy de Maupassant's story, "The Necklace” the main character Madame Mathilde Loisel wants to have more than what she can afford. She borrows her friend Madame Forestier’s necklace to go to a ball and later loses it. So Madame Loisel works herself haggard to buy a similar necklace to replace the original. However life is full of irony and at the end of the story she realizes that the necklace she borrowed was fake. Because of her greed and dishonesty she spends ten years of her life trying to pay for the necklace she lost. Even though Madame Loisel has a humble and understanding husband she is not happy because she wants more than what she can afford.
