We pulled up in a next to empty parking lot; it was about 10:30a.m. as I looked down at the clock. The driver got out and walked around to my door and told me to get out, I looked at her kind of funny but somewhat scared not knowing what to think. She opened my door slowly and told me to get out, my mom then told me that she thought I'd like to drive. I looked at her oddly considering I was only fourteen at the time and said "sure".

I got out and ran to the other side half excited and half scared. I was thinking and somewhat hoping that it wouldn't be that hard and that it would be something like one of my favorite games 'Pole Position'. I got in and pressed my foot on the brake, put the car in reverse and went flying backwards. I soon realized that screaming "woah" would not make the car stop.

My mom calmly looked over at me and said, "Try the brakes", of course knowing exactly what would happen she braced herself as the car came to a screeching halt. Finally backed out of the parking space she had put me in, I put the car in drive and we went flying forward, also knowing this would happen my mom braced herself again.

I drove down Iron Bridge to my dads work, crossing over lanes of traffic and such just trying to get there. After that first time on the road I got better and better as most people do and I thought I knew how to drive. I had been driving for three years until I got my most recent driving instruction. I had been bugging my girl friend to teach me how to drive her stick shift but we just never seemed to have the time to take me to a parking lot and teach me. One night we were driving down the road minding our own business when we both look up to realize that the police were flashing us and we didn't think it was because they liked us. We pulled over and the officer came up and asked her if she knew she had a headlight out, she asked him what he was talking about and got out of her car to check and see. When she got back in the car the officer asked for her license and registration, she gladly handed it to him and he went back to his car to run her license. At this point in time another officer had shown up for back up and soon came to the window and asked if she knew her license was suspended, she looked at him in astonishment and asked why. The officer explained that she had not paid a ticket and therefore DMV had suspended her license. She told the officer that that was incorrect and she even showed him the check stub from where she had paid it. The policeman looked in and said "Is there another licensed driver in your car? If not we're gonna have to tow it."
