The Bacteria that causes Lyme disease is called Borrelia burgdorferi, which is transmitted by the bite of ticks. Not all types of ticks carries the bacteria that causes the disease, In the Eastern United States the deer tick is mainly responsible, but in the Western United States the black-legged tick is the dominate carrier. Once infected with the disease it affects the skin, heart, nerves and joints.The diagnosis of Lyme disease is based on the symptoms, the infected person’s history and their blood test results. There are three stages of Lyme disease in which doctors diagnose upon the infected.
