The theme is the novel Of Mice and Men is the need for a companion and mankind's weaknesses. Almost everyone in the novel at one time has showed that they need a friend or someone close to talk to. Everyone on that farm feels lonely. But the hardest part for the people on this farm is feeling only when there is people there with you, with the same situation, that knows each other secrets. The characters' struggles for close friends in this novel suggest that everyone lives life feeling lonely at one point or another.
Lennie and George are very close companions. Based on actions that George takes, it shows that George cares a lot for Lennie. Lennie seemed to always obey George but on page 70, Crooks makes fun of Lennie and makes him feel ghastly. Lennie then lost his trust in George, and Lennie's weakness was exposed. No matter what h

ow close they were before, deep inside, he was corrupt and needed someone he can really trust.
What the author really emphasizes in this book is the fact that the people with problems try to make other people just like them. And by doing that, they problems will not be as bad but deep inside, no one over comes their weakness. The minor material in this novel is the on the surface, like what Lennie looks like and what do the do physically. What really matters in this story is the intentions of each character and how each character deals with their loneliness and problems.
