September 11th

September, 11th has always been the special day for me. It is the day when my mom was born. It had become a family tradition to invite relatives and friends to our home on that day, cook and serve all kinds of delicious food and entertain the guests. We never miss any of her birthdays.

These rare hours of reunification of the family give us energy for the whole year to resist the problems of everyday life. It is the obligation of all of us to come and wish mom many happy returns, bring her favorite flowers and, a present as a symbol of gratitude for everything she had done for us. The tears of happiness appear in her eyes when she unpacks our presents, and then she feels blessed to have us as her children. Looking at her at these moments, I realize that the flight of time, tireless and severe, make her more fragile with the years. She doesn't look as strong and confident as she did some years ago. We love her in the same way, but for some reason express our feeling so seldomly. Maybe the troubles of living make us insensitive. Every time on her birthday I promise myself to call her everyday, to kiss her when I come home, to make her smile with a tiny souvenir brought especially for her. It is really frustrating and painful to realize a year later that your promise is still unfulfilled. However, it doesn't directly mean that we are ungrateful children. Our mother is in the heart of each of us four. We try to stay united all the time to protect the family from any harm. Mom, being the center of this unit, lights up each of our lives making sure that we are on the right track.
