M The Movie

"Always there is this terrible voice force inside of me driving me on. Im always afraid of myself, of people, of ghost, always I must walk streets alone, and always I am followed soundlessly. Yet I hear it. It's me pursuing myself. I want to run to escape from myself but I can't. I can't escape I must obey. Forced to run endless streets, pursued by ghost, ghost of mothers and of those of children. They are always there, always. Except when I. Then I can't remember anything. And afterwards I see those posters, I think, did I do that? But I don't remember it! But who will believe me? Who knows what its like to be me? How im forced to act. How I must, must, don't want to. But must! And then a voice screams. I can't bear to hear it. I can't go on. I can't go on. I can't go on".

In the movie "M" we see a murderer torment a city by killing there children. On the outside this person is just like anyone else. He goes about his business and goes through his day just like anyone else. But then these certain things happen that bring out this different person. This person has no control over himself and what he does. He does not think along the lines of a normal rational person. He is total

These are the unmistakable signs in Fritz Lang's movie M that lead up to the murder of a child. Weather it be the casting of shadows, when he whistles a certain tune, doing things with his knife, certain objects, when he buys a child candy or a gift of some kind, and how he writes letters proclaiming he wont be stopped, all these things lead to as well as bring out murderous actions. All of these actions are taken out by the murder that has this uncontol able mental illness and can not help the murderous impulses he gets. Even though he can't help it, it is how he must act. Does not want to but must. Forcing him to do things he does not want to do but has to do. No matter how many children he must rob of a life he would still continue to strive to fulfill this endless bloodlust that will never be satisfied until he is stopped.

One of the strongest signs that this mans uncontrollable murderous side has come out can be shown through the casting of dark heavy shadows. Which is a sign of German expressionism which Fritz Lang the director of this movie used a lot to signify evil. In the beginning of this movie little Elsie Beckmann was looking at the poster that says "10,000 Marks Reward Who is this murder." Signifying to the audience that this murder has been killing for several months now. Then while she was reading this poster the deep dark shadow is casting over her showing that something bad was going to happen. This is a sign that his uncontrollable impulses have come out and another part of him takes over. Then he comely says "What a pretty ball, What is your name". Then going about what he has to, but does not want to satisfy his uncontrollable murderous desires. This shows that Fritz Lang's use of German expressionism in these situations with the casting of dark shadows shows evil and that the person is giving in to his uncontrollable murderous desires.

ly taken over by this mental illness and acts in such a way that he does not want to but yes feels as if he is forces to. He can't bear to hear it or do what he does yet he has no control over it always feeling as if he is being pursued by this deeper darker thing inside of him. Then afterwards when he see's the terrible things he has done he cant even believe that it was him. It is obvious that he has an uncontrollable mental illness and that certain things bring out these uncontrollable murderous actions and are able to be se
