A Friend Essay

A friend, what really is a friend, a real true friend? As you take that long journey through life you will never be alone. A friend will always be there if you need her. A friend never turns her back on you when you need her. The one true friend you meet along the way will never give up on your friendship no matter what.

As you go through life many different people will come and go, only a few will grasp on a piece of your heart forever. I believe that these are the people that make you the person you are. A good friend is hard to find so once she grasps on do not ever let her go.

Dinah Maria Mulock Craik wrote in The Best Loved Poems of the American People "oh the comfort- the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person, Having neither to weigh the thoughts, Nor measure the words- but pouring them all right out-just as they are...”(43). Telling her anything in the world with no limitations knowing she will be there for you when it is all said, she is the best kind of friend you can find.

In the past nineteen years I have met lots of people, most just walked right through my life while others just kind of stuck with me through the good, the memorable, and the ugly. Karl once told me "only the bad times will tell you who your real friends are”. Karl seems to be right so far, he has been with me for almost three years and a lot of bad things have happened and he helped me through all of them.

A good definition of a friend to me is that no matter what the circumstances are or what the situation is she is there for me. In the Grolier New Webster's Dictionary they define friend " affections and good will”.
