Gun Control

A detailed Summary of Gun Control

I am writing in response to Jaime Sarrio's article, Guns main cause of terror in U.S. on September 25, 2001. I must say that I do agree with you, trigger locks are a good thing and that they save lives. But, that is as far as we think alike. For starters I don't see how taking guns away from the American people would have changed anything that happened on September 11.

When you say at what cost is the right to bear arms costing other Americans, the answer is not that much. In fact in some cases it saves us. According to Dr. Henry Kleck, who works for the National Crime Survey, says, "gun-wielding civilians in self-defense or some other legally justified cause kill between 1,500 and 2,800 felons, which is 2.5-7 times as many criminals as are shot dead by the police." He also claims, "there were about 8,700-16,600 non-fatal, legally permissible wounds of criminals by gun armed civilians." You also say that according to Harvard Medical Research Center that the majority of all homicides and suicides involve guns. This is probably true, but according to the U.S. government research shows that someone wanting to commit suicide will find another way if a gun is not available. You then go on to attack the NRA by im

Now the main reason I am against gun control. I want you to put your self in a criminals shoes. Okay so you pull into a neighborhood you want to rob a house. You know that one has a gun, one might have a gun and one does not have a gun. Which are you going to rob? The one that you know you are not at risk of getting shot. Other than common since this was proved in Kennesaw, GA. The city government passed an ordinance that provided everyone that lived within the city must own a firearm. As a result from this crime plummeted 30% the first year, and it continues to drop to this day. In fact, crime all over the U.S. is dropping except in one common place in each state. Before I tell you where that common place is, I would like to inform you that the per capita gun rate has increased 260% for all firearms and 350% for handguns since 1945. Now the place where crime is on the rise is on or near college campuses. Since there all guns are banned on college campuses, I believe that the correlation in crime and guns is one that states guns prevent crime. So this is where some people jump to conclusions and say well we should take all the guns so that no one can shoot anyone. This would be even worse. The only people that will give up
