Media Violence
Every time you turn on the TV or listen to the radio or even go to the movies you’re exposed to violence. Everyday it seems like that more and more violence is being used in these mediums as entertainment for us. But many would argue that the images of violence that we see on TV and movies and what we hear in music encourage us to be violent. Could this be true? Can what we see or hear influence us in such a way. In some ways it can. Whenever you turn on your TV you’re exposed to violence. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics “A child who watches three to four hours a day of non-educational TV will see about 8,000 small-screen murders by the time he or she finishes grade school”. A study of 700 children was also done by Columbia University and found that a child who watches an hour of TV a day is likely to be more violent in his late teens and early 20’s.
