Peer Pressure
As a teenager in today's world, I see that our lives our a constant product of peer pressure and that our minds are often swayed from what may be considered better judgment because of how those around us feel. Peer pressure can come from any and everywhere and in every aspect of your life. You can be five or ninety-five but yet, we are all victims of peer pressure. I would like to talk about some areas of this, sometimes too often-dreadful thing that we call peer pressure. In our lives today, we are convinced that drugs, alcohol, sex, and things of that aspect are all right but only as long as that is what everyone else is doing. I am not going to sit here and throw stones at those who have made their life choices because I am not perfect. All I can say is like the great author, Ralph Waldo Emerson said in his essay, Self-Reliance, "Man is his own star; and the soul that can Render an honest and a perfect man, Commands all light, all influence, all fate; Nothing to him falls early or too late. I would like to touch on that now and to elaborate to help you see where I am coming from with being influenced. First, I would like to talk about peer pressure dealing with drugs and alcohol. The reason I say both of these is because they go together hand in hand. I have learned through people I have went to school with or even known my whole life that just because someone says it looks good and/or tastes good that we are prone to try it because of what one of our peers think. "Try this drug because see how it hit me?" This is just an example of how the youth of now live. Once again, I am not casting stones because I am not perfect but I have seen many people hurt because of the effect of peer pressure dealing with drugs and alcohol. Next, I want to talk about the sexual aspects of peer pressure. Today, we are very educated about sex and the consequences of having sex but once again there is the image on TV, in magazines, on the radio, etc. that makes us think that sex is all right and that things cant happen if you are protected. That is a lie and in this world we should all know that condoms are not always 100% effective. They don't protect against AIDS or some sexually transmitted diseases. Then when
