The family format has changed over the years. We now have a vast assortment of different types/groups of families to suit every lifestyle and level of comfort. Today's family could range anywhere from a couple (man and woman, two men or two women) to a couple and one or more children. Since everyone has a different definition of family, no one combination is right or wrong.
The "childless couple" families of recent times just don't feel the need to become parents due to their own reasoning. Some feel as though their lives are already perfect without the addition of an offspring. They would prefer to devote their time and energy to other things besides raising children. Sometimes, you do find couples that are willing to contribute to the population but unable due to several reasons such as health problems or financial problems. I believe that every couple should experience being a "childless couple" prior to bringing a child into a relationship that does not have a strong foundation.
In "mother-only" families, women take the primary responsibility to raise and care for children without the support of a man or other parental figure. Some of the mothers take full responsibility for their children, including f
men, because these models are amply provided by other male relatives, friends or the media". Goldschneider and Waite have also noticed that what sons lack is the experience with men to incorporate manly traits into their own lifestyles. Sons who are raised by "mother-only" families may develop intricacies with adulthood and parenthood. Also, in "mother-only" families sons are robbed of the opportunity to have someone share with them the favorites from their childhood that they could use to enhance their own thoughts and dreams during their childhood, which promotes male persona. Women who raise sons on their own should be commended anytime they have raised a son who is respectful, mannerly and successful. Anytime a woman can raise a boy to become a man whether it is all by herself or with the help of a male figure in her life she should be commended. "Mother-only" families seem to produce a lesser number of children than "old" families or "new" families because it becomes a very large responsibility for a woman to take on both parental roles, meaning being solely responsible for the total support and upbringing of a child or children.
