Immagration Essay
I did my immigration project on Barbara Sobieszczanska. She emigrated from Poland to the United States in 1986. The reason why she and her family who now live in Lafayette left Poland was because of the condition. Many of the educated people could not find a good paying job. Also there was a shortage in Poland and getting everyday things like a dishwasher or dryer was almost impossible. So even if the people did have a well paying job, there was nothing to buy. When Barbara and her family first decided to leave the country they tried to go to Australia, but unfortunately they were rejected. So her husband moved to West Germany to work on the black market to make money while she stayed in Poland trying to get a passport. To maintain a passport was very difficult for her because the government new people wouldn’t come back. When they did grant her a passport, they would not let her bring her newborn son.
