Grover Cleveland

This book is about the life of Stephen Grover Cleveland our 22nd and 24th president of the United States. The only president to serve two non-consecutive terms in the white house. A well known lawyer who stated he would only represent clients he felt were innocent.famous mayor of Buffalo, New York known as mayor veto due to he was always watching out for the tax payers. Only person who actually served both democratic and republican in points of views for the country.

But let's start out in Caldwell, New Jersey on March 18th 1837 where our president was born to Reverend Richard and Ann Cleveland. Stephen's dad was a very educated man he got high honors at Yale and continued his studies of protestant at Princeton theological seminary and was ordained in 1828 and accepted to be a pastor at the first congressional church in Windham,Connecticut. This job was a big source of the income to feed the nine children of the minister. But soon the reverend had found out that he had an ulcer and would have to take a less stressful church and so had to leave for Fayetteville, New York in 1841. Where the family had to find other means to get money by making their older children go to the work place to find jobs to provide the income. Even Grov


Grover in this time was drafted to go to war but instead paid a criminal 150 dollars to go for him which at this time was legal to be substituted for war.

But soon tragedy strikes on October 4th 1853 just a few months after everything was looking up and Grover was on his way to college. His father passed away of peritonitis. So Grover than needed more income so he quit his job at deacons to Become an assistant teacher for New York institution for the blind in New York City. In 1854 goes to Holland patent to visit his family after the death of his father. 1855 Grover goes back to Buffalo to persue his law career and was appointed clerk in law firm of Rogers, Bowen ,Rogers. He often went out to drink at this time and was known as big Steve do to the weight he gained since he had gotten there. in 1859 he is admitted to the New York State bar for his license to be a lawyer and passes. After serving 7 years at Rogers, Bowen ,Rogers he is elected ward supervisor in 1862 and the following year to the Erie county district attorney and serves two years.

A few months later Grover finds out he has cancer and it is successfully removed from his month on Oneida a yacht . and is preformed by the best surgeons at the time leaving him a hard plastic roof to his mouth so his brains didn't fall through.. on November first 1893 Congress repeals the Sherman silver act. Soon after bonds are sold to boost the gold economy. But soon his hopes fell again when the Pullman strike happened he sent federal troops . Than he is known to watch out for the rich people and not the common people anymore and the strike is broken and finally Grover has help from J.P Morgan to restore the gold economics and Hawaii gets it's statehood a few months before Utah does. Finally in 1896 democrats are sick of Grover and nominate McKinley.

This book shows that every one gets a chance in life to shine if they work there way up in life as Grover did and kept honesty . And that with every smart decision you make there is a few dumb ones that will live with you forever. i hope i best explained this book to you it was an interesting look at history.
