The Great Gatsby and Wuthering Height are two classic novels that have are lot in common. The Great Gatsby is one of the great classics in American literature, which talks about the social live of those living in New York in the twenties. On the other hand, Wuthering Height is a classic European literature that set in the countryside of northern England. It is about the twisted love between Catherine and Heathcliff. Love and wealth are the two main themes for both novels. They are also the goals of characters in both novels. Characters in both The Great Gatsby and Wuthering Height did successfully achieved wealth, but ironically didn't give them the love they are seeking for, instead they are left with loneness.

The twisted relationship between Catherine and Heathcliff in the novel, Wuthering Height sees both achieve loneness instead of love from their wealth. Catherine has always wanted to have a new life and she thinks wealth can help her to achieve this goal. For this reason, she marries Hindly who can provide her with wealth and the kind of life she wants. However, in the process she scarifies her love with Heathcliff. Some may argue that Catherine is able to achieve love from Hindly instead. However this probably is not t

Similar to Wuthering Height, characters in The Great Gatsby also find themselves only to achieve loneness instead of love with the wealth they have. One example is Jay Gatsby, a very wealthy man who fails to achieve love and sees his love one, Daisy, marries to Tom instead of him. This situation leaves him with lot of loneness. Although, it seems that Gatsby's wealth provides him with lots of parties and fun, they never keep Gatsby away from the loneness side. Nick informs us that Gatsby is actually a loner in these parties he has. " . . . my eyes fell on Gatsby, standing alone on the marble steps and looking from one group to another . . . but no one swooned backward on Gatsby, and no French bob touched Gatsby's shoulder, and no singing quartets were formed with Gatsby's head for one link" (p.50).
