Hellywood

The alarm went off as it does every morning at exactly 6:00am. I sat up, rubbed my eyes, stretched, pulled the covers off and got out of the bed. Normally, I am not one to stare at myself in the mirror in the morning, in fear that I will see something that could result in complete horror; but as I walked past my closet door I couldn't restrain myself from peering into the mirror. It was the same full-length mirror that I had since a child, adorned with stickers and multiple layers of paint. Silly to say, but it was a mirror that I trusted; however, today was different. When I looked into the mirror, I didn't see me, and I didn't see my room. All I saw was black. I rubbed my eyes thinking that I was not fully awake and looked back into the mirror, yet the blackness remained. Could this be just a dream? I pinched myself to make sure I was really awake and sure enough the pain was there. I turned around and took two steps backwards, turned back around and looked into the mirror: black, still. It was then I heard someone calling my name from the other side of the room. I was already freaked out by my mirror, but when I heard an unknown voice coming from my room, it felt like I had died and been placed inside a Wes Craven horror film.

I thanked them for allowing me to tour Hellywood, and for the warnings as well. They offered me a room in the Heartbreak Hotel so I could stay longer, but of course I refused. We all said our goodbyes and Elvis led me back to the beginning of Hellywood.

"Hellywood," I asked him, "What the hell is Hellywood?"

He stood up and walked toward me, placed his hand on my hip, gently leaned over and kissed me on the cheek, took my hand and led me over to my closet door. He stepped through the mirror and pulled me behind him. We were immediately taken to a surreal location; Rodeo Drive. The whole ordeal made me want to shout out, "Toto, I have a feeling we aren't in Kansas anymore." In spite of all the strange things that had just occurred, Elvis' presence made everything seem all right.

He leaned over and kissed my cheek again, gently let go of my hand and gave me a small push toward the door. I walked over to it, turned around, waved goodbye and stepped back through the door. I was finally back in my room, and thankful to be home. When I looked into the mirror I was so happy to see my own reflection. I figured that I should put off school for today, and get some rest. I climbed back into bed, pulled the covers over me and closed my eyes. Just as I was drifting back into the land of nod, I thought to myself, "Maybe it's time I rethink my dreams. Hellywood sure isn't a place I want to spend eternity in." It was then I decided to become a tabloid journalist.

"Expecting me?" I asked, "Hellywood is full of celebrities and I am not one; although it has always been my dream to become famous."

"I gotta let you go, pretty lady," he told me, "I can't go back with you. But if you are ever lonesome, write me a letter. Don't send it though, because it will just come back with a return to sender stamp. Go on, step back through the door."

"Yes, stores." Siskel said, "There are nine different stores of Hell located here on Rodeo Drive. Each one is for a different sin. The Prince of Darkness has placed us in charge of deciding where each ill-fated soul shall be placed."

We quickly made our way out of Planet Hellywood and down the road to the next store. The sign on the outside read, "CD Hell House". It was here I guessed we would see great figures of the music business who had done wrong while in celeb-status. Elvis informed me that this was where he resided in Hell. The CD Hell House was separated into different sections, just as a music store is. We marched past the first section, which I guessed was for the deceitful. Here I saw Milli Vanilli, New Kids on the Block, and Vanilla Ice huddled in a mass on the floor. Each had pair of headphones strapped to their ears, blasting their phony music into their heads. They were surrounded by tiny people throwing sharp objects at them; I presumed these people symbolized their fans and the hatred they had for being mislead and underappreciated. It was also here I saw the likes of Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G. I asked Elvis why they were placed among the deceitful and he replied, "Because they faked their murders as a publicity stunt. When the Creator heard of this, he directly damned them to Hellywood for eternity. Now they are punished by being shot at by the members of the gangs they belonged to." We moved on to the next section of the Music Store and here we found those who took their own life or abused themselves causing their death. I saw everyone from Kurt Cobain and Jimmi Hendrix to Janis Joplin. In the corner of this section I saw a huge toilet which resembled a throne, engraved in the commode was a big E. I knew instantly that this was the seat for Elvis. He said to me in a most sincere tone, "Yes, my dear,
