Caesar Agustus Impact On Rome
Augustus was born on the 23rd of September in 63 B.C. and died on the 19th of August 14 A.D. Throughout the course of his eighty-two years, Caesar Augustus was responsible for many great accomplishments, not the least of which was the recreation of the Republic of Rome. In true Caesarian style, Augustus displayed the Record of His Accomplishments throughout the empire. In the time following the Second Triumvirate, Augustus possessed every high office that he would allow the Senate to bestow upon him. He was Consul, triumver, princeps senatus, pontifex maximus and was offered the role of dictator, which he refused on multiple occasions. His independent wealth made it possible to lower the rate of taxation on the Roman citizens. So, despite the lessened monetary success of the 'empire', there was a decreased demand on the common taxpayer because Augustus was prosperous enough to offset the losses of Rome as a whole. Once again, it is obvious that the man, as opposed to the office, was integral in the solution to Rome's financial crisis. His government, called the Principate, returned power to the senate that had been stripped by the generals of pre-Caesarian Rome. As the sole survivor of the Second Triumvirate, Augustus was in a position to be Emperor, but instead he relinquished his power to the Senate. In gratitude, they bestowed upon him control over all of Rome's armies. Putting all of the Roman armies under the control of one general essentially nullified the chances of civil war that had been plaguing the
