Into the Wild

The Life and Death That Is Meant To Be

All his life, he acted out in such way that he was in the system that surrounded the society, but never doubts his inner calls from the nature, rendered in his blood. Chris McCandless started his journey long before the summer of 1990. He was an adventurer by his father's side, which was one of the reasons for leaving the urban life.

All planed long ago. His journey after the high school graduation proved him right that there was a cure for his inner calls. He discovered how wildlife gave him the freedom he needed. He maybe thought journey would lift him up where he wanted to be, away from the corrupted system in which all try to take a stand.

His rage and vision through the system showed itself before by protesting against world hunger. His passionate columns in the university paper shout out his divorce from the life. Neither his family, nor his friends could have figure his plans, because his well-thought plan led them not to.

They, who knew him or even get crossed by him, couldn't stress enough that he was a smart, hard-working, and honest man, whom they enjoyed and accepted his company. If he ever wanted to keep himself in the system, which he was more than qualified so; he could.

After all the adventures, he decided there should be a final one, the biggest there is, to prove himself that he had lived it all before he quits. He headed north to Alaska, where the wild is wilder than any other, and the civilization is farther than he ever wanted. He was aware of its risk but it has to be done in order to stop the "itchy feet". The experience he earned up to this point gave him the confidence, besides he had been filling up for this final adventure from the day one.

He found Alaska as he thought, beautiful, wilder, and alone. He was living his dream. Mother Nature was good to him that he didn't have any problem feeding himself, but his lack of knowledge about preserving meat hurt him and made him think twice before he hunt a big game.

I see his Alaska adventure as "climbing the highest mountain". In such quest, one prepares himself, plan every little detail, obtain sufficient supplies and starts his journey. But in Chris's case, his adventure relates to such quest in another way. For Chris, He wanted to pull the point of extreme farther than it was. By not having sufficient supplies, he would experience the real deal of living out into the wild in Alaska. Only than he would
