The Crucible by Arthur Miller was named appropriately. Sitting through this movie was like being thrown into a crucible, over a raging furnace. This movie is just a boiling pot of screaming and wailing, people getting hung like Christmas lights in the middle of December, and then the whole bit about Jon Proctor's name.

In 1692 there were many witch trials in Salem. Jon Proctor (Daniel Day Lewis) lived in the middle of the confusion. The body count rises after Abigail Williams (Wynona Ryder) and the other girls in the village are caught dancing in the woods. So as to avoid punishment they say that the Devil made them do
