A prose Analysis of "A Rose for Emily"

This short story is set in a fictional country in Mississippi

and the narrator is an unnamed towns man. The story

begins after the death of the main character Emily

Grierson. In this story we are the patriarchy north and

south and of the sexual conflict within it. In this story the

author tells us of a woman victimized and betrayed by the

society and its values, who decide to please herself.

As stated in the story " when Miss Emily died the whole

town went to the funeral" this tells me that Miss Emily was

lady of great status in the town. The town saw her as a lady

Paragraphs fifty five (55) begins the epilogue of " A rose

for Emily", the paragraph begins with the Negro meeting

the first ladies of the front doors and letting them in. The

author immediately set the scene " their hushed, sibilant

voices and their quiet curious glances." tell us the ladies

entered the house in a quite, inquisitive way speaking with

hush voices, and the Negro disappearing immediately tell

us he did not want to be connected with what they would

discover. We also noted that while Miss Emily laid


and she refused to answer his questions, he gave it to her

such as " pervading dust", meaning dust had impregnate

scene of the room gave us two views one of a bridal suite

this is the first time in the story that violence is used,
