I. We need to stop students from bringing marijuana on campus

1. In the long run our fellow students will be better able to deal with the pressures of university life, and their long term health won't be put at risk.

2. The short-term effects of marijuana include:

1. From 1991 to 1996, current illicit drug use among 8th graders doubled from 5.7 percent to 14.6 percent.

Conclusion: We need new methods of getting students to understand the effects of marijuana use. We need more effective methods of punishment for drug dealers and distributors. We need campaigns like the Truth cigarette campaign to show students what the affects of marijuana usage can be. That is a campaign that can show the social and physical consequences of marijuana usage. We need to petition the student government to create better support programs for students, develop effective answers to the growing drug dealer presence on campus, all of which is necessary in order to begin dealing with the marijuana and drug usage at FAU before it gets worse.
