"The Influenced Charlie"

A detailed Summary of "The Influenced Charlie"

Charlie is an independent skilled pilot who believes that anything can "be dealt with by good machines in the hands of skilled men". He is "a stranger to the land below" until a native woman named Konala, who Charlie hated, has now changed. Konala's impression to Charlie has changed Charlie's attitude towards her and, the nature. He now knows that, there is a spirit in nature. After Konala's final words, Charlie realizes that she was treating him just like a brother and, has regretted what he did to her earlier. The story shows that, Charlie's attitude towards Konala and the nature changed from hatred to sympathetic because, of the unselfishness, hardworking, resourcefulness and, the leadership of Konala that made her a role model to Charlie.

Initially, Charlie's knowledge towards the nature is absolutely zero. He needed "a few white fox pelts to trade" from these people that he called "Huskies". He sees this woman "lying on some caribou hides". On Charlie's first glance of the woman, he automatically knows that she has a fever. Charlie has to take the woman with him because, the huskies handed him "two walrus tusks" which they are of "exceptional quality". Charlie has to fly her to the "little hospital at Yellowknife" but in

stead, their plane crashes just two hours after they had left the Husky homes. At this point, Charlie really hated the looks of Konala even though, "she smiled tentatively" at him. Whenever Charlie gets deranged, he takes all his animosity on Konala. Just looking at Konala makes Charlie mad. When Konala offer's Charlie food, Charlie "revolted and waved her away" by saying, ""Eat it yourself...you animal!"". Charlie's "resentment exploded" when Konala was asking Charlie where they are heading. Charlie left without Konala because, he thinks that there is "no way she could make it with him to Baker", and she has "deerskins to keep her warm". Charlie's attitude towards Konala is absolutely despicable, until a tragedy occurred.

This Dramatic change in attitude in Charlie is one of the most sensational scene in this story. Charlie goes, then, from dreadful to...that others can influence people's thoughts and attitudes. Which means that, people can change people in a way of bad or good. That is why there are so many people in our society that has different thoughts about different things.

Ultimately, Charlie is starting to see the good side of Konala. He is polite and open minded, he realizes that Konala cares about him. Now, Charlie is more dependent on Konala. When Konala was making fun of how Charlie walks
