Matthew and Judaism
The Christian religion is based on the New Testament and believes that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Messiah. Before Jesus was sent down from heaven and born on earth, the religion of the Christians was Judaism. How can this be? Two different religions with the base in the Old Testament or the Torah but yet still with different beliefs and traditions. Who is right? The Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, or is the Jewish religion right in believing the messiah has not come yet. How did that happen? The splitting of a religion formed these two separate views. The gospel of Mathew explains a lot about Jesus' life, and many of his teachings. Jesus was conceived during a dream by Joseph and the virgin Mother Mary. Spirits had come to them in their sleep and explained to them what was going to happen and what they were to do. Both Joseph and Mary did everything that the spirits had told them to do. The birth of Jesus created a lot of commotion from people all over the world. King Herod had gotten news of the newborn king of Jews by astrologers from the East; he called together a meeting of all the chief priests and scribes of the Jews. Herod wanted to get rid of this new child because he was
One might think that parallels could not be found in two religions that differ in the belief that is the cornerstone of their religion, but it is possible. Although there is one great difference in beliefs that tore apart the Christians and the Jews, it is still apparent that both religions started as one. The similarities in smaller yet still vital beliefs clearly show this. The book of Matthew gives a better look into the role Jews played in Jesus' life and how this role was different than that of the Christians due to beliefs. Although the New Testament is only part of the Christian Bible, the Jewish religion is apparent throughout and much can be learned about this religion from reading it. Throughout the rest of Jesus' life he teaches a new way of living, a new way of prayer, and new perspectives about the afterlife. Many people would follow him and watch him perform countless miracles and listen to his word. Jesus had brought a new way of life to the once Jews. Jesus had shown how the Ten Commandments were now to be interpreted and by showing this they were to be more powerful and no longer easy to follow. "Do not suppose that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I did no come to abolish, but complete." (Mathew 5:20) Jesus' teachings now had upset the power of the high Jews in the church. People would question which is the right thing? Should they believe this new man, the supposed messiah, or do they stay with tradition and continue to believe in the Old Testament teaches and the Jewish religion? The Jews in high power saw that this was not only going to bring about a revolution in religion, but it would more than likely mean their jobs. They tried all different ways of trying to prove Jesus wrong and tried to show that he was not the true Messiah, but Jesus and his followers remained strong. Th
