Sir Gawin and the Green Knight
The strict value systems of the early fourteenth century can be seen through the manyfamous and traditional pieces of literature written by known and also unknown, mysterious authors of this time. Through these works, it is noticeable that specific characteristics such as religious faith, trust and confidence must be distinct in a person in order for them to be considered a noble and honorable man or woman. The poem, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, written by an author unknown, demonstrates that although a person may hold many great characteristics that are highly recognized as perfect, they are human and able to make mistakes. Throughout the beginning pieces of the poem, Sir Gawain's perfection as a honorable knight, friend and follower of god is seen. Through his many actions of being honest and true to himself and his values of life, the reader is forced upon a false opinion of his character (Clein, 3). There are many incidences in parts one and two of the poem that give readers an unrealistic opinion of Sir Gawain which make him seem unhuman.
