Inviting a new baby with Down syndrome into a family holds more weight than one can imagine. Babies with Down syndrome usually have three copies of chromosome 21 because the egg had two copies instead of one, which is why they differ from others without Down syndrome. Due to this, children develop characteristics that have a drastic change on their life. Characteristics such as wide rounded faces, a fold of the upper lip, short stature, stubby fingers, wide gap between the first and second toes, large tongues, and as severe mental retardation in some cases. Medical attention as well as personal attention is required to a baby with such a disease. Parents play a great roll in raising children with Down syndrome.
Putting me in a situation where I have a child with Down syndrome is not an easy task. If having to approach this task I would in the following way. For starters, all family member
more attention has to be put into it. Children with Down syndrome do not develop nearly as quickly as a child without the disease. Teaching them to walk is hard to do, do to their webbed feet and incapability to grasp the concept of what is actually taking place. When sending them off to school it is difficult for the child to be accepted by other children and have to require special attention. Children may look down upon my child but I will fill him or her with the confidence that he or she is the best person in the world. Most of all society puts a great deal on ones appearance and that will be another issues my husband and I address. My child will have an understanding that no matter what one looks like or how one may act everyone is accepted in the world and loved to and unconditional level. I think in the end everything will work out. I will try to help my child as much as
