A Raisin in the Sun

The check for the death of Mama's husband brought controversy upon the family as what to do with the money. Walter wanted to put it towards his future, Beneatha needed it for her tuition for medical school, and Mama wanted to buy the house in Clybourne Park. This shows that members of the family have different views of how money should be spent. The abundance of money, self-fulfillment, and desire to participate in the American dream is the meaning of success (shown in this book) for many people back in the 50's and even now. In A Raisin in the Sun, the American dream of living in a higher class and being something in the world still proposes a controversy between the Youngers.
