The Ultimate Safari
A detailed Summary of The Ultimate Safari
"The Ultimate Safari" acts as an allegory of how if someone can put his mind to doing something and can have enough willpower inside to do what he really desires, he can accomplish anything he wants to. The story also has many other interesting features such as the point of view that the author chose. And the title. Which appears to, when comparing, have no connection to the story at all.
The story, "The Ultimate Safari" is about how a little girl and her siblings are seeing the world during a time of despair. When their mother is missing and their father at war. Their grandmother is a true leader, which is pointed out many times in the story. The grandmother from the girl's point of view is helping to lead this whole family thru the Kruger park reserve, she has no help from anyone else and make's certain that the children and her weak and seemingly dying husband always get nourishment before she does. The story moves thru the Kruger park reserve where they loose the grandfather and build outside, they all end up living in a giant tent with a blue ceiling, the girl tells the story well but in the end still thinks that her mother is going to come back and hasn't been killed and that the grandfather will find them. And that ,"[e

The story, "The Ultimate Safari" acts as not just symbols and why the author chose a certain point of view but also as reality check, the children in "The Ultimate Safari" had no mother and no father they had no aunts or uncles they just had their grandparents two people who just had to put themselves to realizing the fact that the kids parents, their children, were gone and now they had get on with their lives and keep this group of kids safe. The last line of the book applies to anyone who has lost a friend or relative its just a way of coping with death and wishing for the best, "maybe when we left our grandfather, he was only left behind, he found his way somehow, slowly, through the Kruger Park, and he'll be there. They'll be home, and I'll remember them"(131).
The title, "The Ultimate Safari" was a really odd choice for the author to make. You pick up the story expecting it to be this wonderful story about a group of tourists who go to Africa and see all theses animals and maybe one of the tourists get into some trouble with an animal and gets attacked and so on but really the reality of the story and the use of the word "Ultimate" is nothing at all, "Ultimate" doesn't even seem to connect to the story in anyway what so ever. "Ultimate" and what the people in the story went through is nothing compared to the definition you have of the word ultimate, really this story was about a great journey and how a whole entire town got together packed up one day and had to re-locat
