Nathan Is a Procrastinator. Everything he does is rushed and at the last minute. He is under a tremendous amount of stress all the time. He is a high school Senior at Downers Grove South High School. He is one of my Patients whose case is troubling me. I asked six of my colleagues to come and assist me in helping my clients' case. The six colleagues I called to help me each is an expert in one of the six contemporary perspectives of psychology. The Six experts are Biff (The Biological Perspective), Chocolate (The Cognitive Perspective), Honey (Humanistic Perspective), Peaches (Psychoanalytic Perspective), Lucy (The learning Perspectives), Suzy (The Sociocultural Perspective) they will each analyze Nathan's case according to his or her perspective.
Biff looks at the Biological perspectives of how Nathan's behavior could be changed. The biological perspective emphasizes the influence of biology on our behavior. Psychologists assume
Peaches the Psychoanalytic perspective stress the influence of unconscious forces on human behavior. Aggressive impulses are common reactions to the frustrations of daily life and that we seek to vent these impulses on other people. Because we fear rejection or retaliation, we put most aggressive impulses out of our minds. But by holding aggression in, we set the stage for future explosions. Pent-up aggressive impulses demand outlets.
Suzy the Sociocultural perspective addresses such issues as ethnity, gender, culture, and socioeconomic status. It is based on the idea that these factors have a significant impact on human behavior and mental processes.
Contemporary Psychologists differ in their approaches to psychological thought. These broad six perspectives are the most common ways to view behavior today.
