Poverty is the parent of revolution and crime. This is one of the most profound philosophical statements ever made. Aristotle was influenced by the short upbringing of his parents, particularly that of his father, who died when he was only ten years old. His father was a doctor. Aristotle was raised by an uncle or family friend. Aristotle learned Greek, rhetoric and poetry from his guardian. This coupled with the biological studies with his father helped to form his opinions and/or philosophy about human nature. Further educated at Plato's Academy in Athens, Aristotle firmly believed kings should be philosophers and philosophers kings. Then the king could fill his reign with good deeds, not with good works.

If he is unsuccessful in this endeavor, then he may commit a crime in order to get what he needs. Logically thinking, his next step would be to steal that which he needs. Therefore, if a man is poor and cannot afford to buy food, he might be forced to steal food. The same is true of a poverty-ridden city in ancient Greece or Macedonia. The poor would be predisposed to banning together to fight their oppressors and to attempting to obtain what everyone needed through unsavory means.
