In the famous story "The Hound of The Baskervilles", by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle the main character is Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock Holmes is brought upon solving the mysterious death that has occurred in the Baskerville's residency. Holmes uses specific reasoning in solving the great mystery of the hound.

Sherlock Holmes is famous for his brilliance in gathering evidence to solve mysteries. He starts of by displaying his excellence by dissembling the history behind a cane left in his office. His name is Dr. Mortimer, he persuades Holmes to take this mystery and find the killer of Charles Baskerville. Dr. Mortimer tells Holmes what he believes happened to Sir Charles before he died, by explaining the evidence which he has gathered up.

Before he even leaves to visit Donsheir (location of murder) he suspects Stapleton in connection with the murder.

Throughout this story Sherlock Holmes uses the information given to him by other people to help solve this mystery. Dr. Mortimer in particular helps Sherlock Holmes a great deal in figuring out how Sir Charles Baskerville died. For example on page 17, Dr. Mortimer tells Sherlock Holes about the public facts that were in connection with the death of Sir Charles Baskerville. Without this knowledge Sherlock Holmes would have never been able to see how this case affected the town's people. Dr. Mortimer also confesses that there were marks about twenty yards away from Sir Charles Baskerville's dead body.
