Biography of Nathaniel Hawthorne
· Born on July 4, 1804 in Salem, Massachusetts· His dad died when he was four years old so Hawthorne moved in with his mom, aunt, and uncle · Went to Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine for four years and then graduated in 1825 · Moved back to Salem after college to work on his writing · Hawthorne was soon established as a distinguished writer when he completed Fanshawe and stories for Twice Told Tales. · Writing wasn't paying enough for Hawthorne to support himself so he got a job as a weigher at the Boston Customs House in 1839 · In 1842 he married Sophia Amelia Peabody and lived in Concord · Returned to the Custom House of Salem to be a surveyor in 1846 · He then moved over the years, back to Concord and then to Liverpool, and Italy · Died in Plymouth, New Hampshire on May 19, 1864 Where Hawthorne Lived and Influences · Massachusetts, the history there inspired him
